How to create a YouTube playlist in 2026: quick guide
In under 2 minutes, you can create and fully configure a YouTube playlist. Name, SEO description, video order, language — here's exactly how.
Why this matters? A well-configured playlist (name + description with keywords) improves your content's discoverability on YouTube and increases your channel's total watch time.

Step 1: Access playlist creation
- Go to youtube.com
- Click your icon (top right) → "Your channel"
- Click "Create" (top right) → "New playlist"
A window appears with all the parameters to fill in.
Step 2: Configure the playlist
Playlist name
Choose a clear name that matches the content you'll put in it.
Examples:
- "How to become a YouTuber in 2026"
- "YouTube Creator Analyses"
- "Minecraft Gaming — Survival Let's Play"
Rule: the name should let a visitor immediately understand what they'll find in the playlist.
Description (crucial for SEO)
Include all keywords related to your playlist's content.
Example:
"Want to launch your YouTube channel in 2026 without wasting time? This playlist brings together all the essential tutorials: creating your channel, setting up YouTube Studio, uploading your first video, and optimizing your metadata."
Why this matters? YouTube indexes playlist descriptions → more relevant keywords = better ranking in search results.
Visibility
Leave set to "Public" — the playlist appears on your channel and in search results.
| Option | Use case |
|---|---|
| Public | Visible to everyone (recommended) |
| Unlisted | Accessible only via direct link |
| Private | Visible only to you |
Default video order
- "Date added (oldest)": for a tutorial or series playlist (videos stay in publication order) ✅
- "Date added (newest)": for a news feed or analyses
- "Most popular": to showcase your best videos
Tip: for a learning series (e.g., "How to become a YouTuber"), always choose "Date added (oldest)" — the viewer watches in logical order.
Language
Select "English" if your playlist contains English videos.
Step 3: Add videos
- Click "Add videos"
- Select videos already uploaded to your channel
- Click "OK" (bottom right)
Tip: you can add videos to an existing playlist at any time — from this interface or directly during a new video upload.
Step 4: Create and verify
- Click "Create"
- You land on your playlist page with all the videos inside
- Go back to "Customize channel" to display it on your home page
Adding the playlist to your home page
To make your playlist visible on your channel:
- YouTube Studio → Customization → Home tab
- "Add section" → "Single playlist"
- Select your playlist
- Move it up to the desired position
- Click "Publish"
